People may have a few questions before they start their martial arts journey...
Here are some of the common ones:
No, you don’t need to be fit to try Taekwon-Do! Our classes are designed for beginners of all fitness levels. Taekwon-Do will actually help you get fitter as you train, improving your strength, flexibility, and endurance over time. Just come as you are, and we’ll guide you through the process!
While any physical activity carries some risk, Taekwon-Do is generally very safe when practiced with proper technique and under the guidance of a qualified instructor. We focus on teaching proper form, control, and safety, and our classes are designed to ensure a supportive and injury-free learning environment. Of course, as with any sport, it's important to listen to your body and train at your own pace!
Yes, all our instructors are highly qualified. They are DBS checked, first aid trained, have completed a national instructor training course, and receive continuous technical training to ensure the highest standards.
The ideal training frequency in Taekwon-Do depends on your goals and schedule. Many beginners start with 1 or perhaps 2 sessions per week. As you progress, 2-3 sessions weekly can help you develop skills and fitness more effectively. Advanced practitioners may train even more frequently to refine techniques and prepare for competitions.
Class lengths vary according to age and ability. KiddieKWON!™ classes are 45 minutes, while older children and adults train for 60 minutes. Special classes can be 90-120 minutes.
Yes! We feel it is very important for new students to try at least one class before deciding to join. You will visit us as our guest, with no cost or obligation to continue. This gives you the opportunity to see if we are the right fit for you or your child. It also lets us assess if you will be suitable as one of our students.

I have been a member of UTKD since I was 6 years old, and now at 22, I can confidently say that it has had a profound impact on my life. UTKD has instilled in me discipline and the five tenets of Taekwondo: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. These principles have been my guide both within and beyond the club.
Despite the challenges of being dyslexic, UTKD has been instrumental in helping me excel. Under the guidance of our exceptional trainer, I have earned multiple medals in competitions, represented England in Taekwondo, and served as the junior team captain. Competing in places like Rimini, Italy, and Tallinn, Estonia, has been a remarkable experience.
The skills and values I have gained at UTKD have also supported my academic progress and are now helping me prepare for a future career in Switzerland. I am determined to continue training and have ambitions to compete again.
Universal Taekwondo is not just a club; it is a family. It has had such a positive impact to life, and I highly recommend
Thank you, UTKD for everything
